If I find myself sitting still or not completing everything on my list each evening, I feel lazy and that I wasted time. Of course the reality is that I am no where near lazy, and I often have expectations of myself that are too high. The particular scenario that follows seems silly, but this is the space where I discuss silly things with myself, so what else would you expect tio read here?
Last night I had a few things on my list I wanted to do: laundry; cycle; exercise; turtle water; flight simulator. The only two things I accomplished were laundry and flying.
Sounds pretty sad and reads like bad time management, doesn't it?
Well, and this is the section that I have to remind myself, let me point out all of the other things that I did do last night, in addition to the two things I have already described:
--I stayed late for a bit at work
--I was on the phone with tech support for the phone
--I did some finance managing
--My wife and I went on a 2 mile walk
--My wife and I worked on our 'blog together
--We made dinner together, including cleaning up
--We walked two miles to the caucus and back
--We watched TV together for a short while and cuddled with the kitties
See? Look at all those things I did! That is a lot of stuff, and some of it was pretty time consuming. So, there was nothing lazy about last night. I guess I could talk about prioritizing a bit (i.e. cycling instead of flying), but I don't think that is really necessary. It would be different if I never exercised or cycled or fed the turtle in favor for another activity, but one evening off from those things so I can relax and fly? And we walked 4 miles yesterday, anyway!
Give myself a break, geez!

I bought a trainer for my bicycle so I could keep up my riding through the winter months. I haven't been using it as much as I thought I would, and I have finally figured out why that is the case.
First of all, in the summer months I cycle about 22-40 miles per trip, which takes about just under two hours to about three hours.
Second, I thought I would ride my trainer for the same amount of time.
Third, I realized that my summer riding is about equivalent to riding only 20-30 minutes on the trainer. This is due to summer riding taking advantage of stoplights, traffic, moving scenery, weather, etc. Riding on the training is basically variable-free, and I get the same workout in much less time, not to mention that I ride the trainer hard.
Add these together and the solution is to ride the trainer for a much shorter time; even 10 or 15 minutes at a time is more than enough to match my summer riding.
I had been trying to do too much so I became afraid of it instead of using it to my best advantage. It also seemed to be too much to make time to ride during the winter. The summer is easier to make time for riding due to longer days, better scenery, and different seasonal attitude in general!
Also, I need to add my sit-ups and push-ups to my workout as well.

Instead of getting upset with all of the careless and selfish drivers out there, I should be patting myself on the back for being careful and selfless enough to avoid them.
Why do I keep forgetting this?
